Job Summary and Qualifications

We are seeking a Director of Construction for Methodist Hospital . The Director of Construction Management provides leadership in the planning, organizing, supporting and developing of construction projects for the Methodist and Children’s Hospital and any related departments thereof. He/she coordinates and directs these projects to ensure Organization meets all applicable codes and maintains all required building safety features designed to protect all building occupants from start to finish. What You Will Do In Your Role:

  • Directs activities of the Construction department including responsibility for each construction project from budgeting to completion preparation. The Director of Construction Management will work with appropriate internal and external stakeholders to create and implement a project budget, and will be responsible for managing the budget throughout the duration of the project(s).

  • Directs the activities and all projects of the Construction department to achieve objectives and remain in continuous compliance with any and all regulatory requirements and/or standards. (e.g. COSA, OSHA, The Joint Commission, NFPA, IBC, TDH, CMS, EPA, CDC, FDC, NRC, HCFA, etc.).

  • Acts as expert level resource to help staff and management conduct strategic planning on complex technical needs and resolve daily technical problems in assigned areas. This position will manage all contactors and vendors throughout the project from design to construction including reviewing and approving change orders within budgetary discretion

  • Directs activities of the Construction Department. Administers construction contracts and monitors construction in progress to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Director of Construction Management will oversee construction documentation, timelines, and quality of work. Will also have direct oversight for meeting all regulatory, infection prevention, and life safety requirements and ensuring project is “survey-ready” throughout life of project.

  • Applies in depth knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings; knowledge of business and management principles involved in long range planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and coordination of people; knowledge of strategies for providing and promoting effective security operations for protection of people, property and institutions; knowledge of regulations and standards established by various regulatory agencies related to healthcare buildings.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Education and Experience: ONE of the following:

  • A. Bachelor’s Degree. Degree in construction management, engineering, or architecture preferred.

  • B. ALL of the following :

  • 1) Eight (8) years experience in a related field

  • 2) Five (5) years experience in a leadership role in a healthcare or similar environment

Special Qualifications :

  • Knowledge of construction terminology construction budget preparation and tracking.

  • Knowledge of Uniform Building Code, International Building Code, National Fire Protection Association, Field Guide Institute, Centers for Disease Control infection prevention practices, OSHA and applicable state regulations including asbestos and fire prevention.

  • Must have effective verbal and written communication in order to communicate a clear concise manner with staff, employees, patients, public, physicians and administration.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook. Preferred knowledge of AutoCAD.

Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:

  • Texas Driver’s License in good standing required

  • American Institute of Architects, OSHA 10-hour certification, American Society of Healthcare Engineers, preferred.
