Deloitte Climate Finance Manager in Rosslyn, Virginia

The Team

The Energy, Climate, and Natural Resources team in Deloitte's Government and Public Services (GPS) practice helps clients implement transformative programming and public services that advance clean, secure, and sustainable growth. Our work is both domestic and international, supporting clients in the U.S. and projects abroad in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. We advise clients on solutions for decarbonization, climate change mitigation, and infrastructure resilience. Examples of our work include supporting countries to mobilize climate finance to achieve Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), creating green budget taxonomies, and developing investable climate projects.

Work you'll do

As a Specialist Master / Manager within our GPS Energy, Climate, and Natural Resources team you will work with public sector clients to solve climate, energy, and natural resource challenges. Work will consist of the following:

  • Work with public sector clients (international, national, and sub-national) to solve critical climate, energy, and water sector issues, particularly those related to financing of energy sector decarbonization, climate change mitigation, and infrastructure resilience.

  • Manage geographically dispersed and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions related to mobilizing finance for decarbonization, resilient infrastructure, and novel approaches to green investment.

  • Develop written analyses, presentations, recommendations, tools, and resources to support clients in understanding the climate finance landscape, accessing finance, finance mobilization, monitoring of financial flows, and impact assessment.

  • Stay abreast of the evolving climate finance landscape and serve as an expert and thought leader in climate finance funds, finance and fund structuring, climate finance project development, and innovative climate finance business models.

  • Manage client relationships and display leadership and business judgment, anticipate client and project needs, identify challenges, and develop solutions.

  • Actively participate and contribute to internal firm activities including staff recruitment and mentorship, and uphold Deloitte's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and work-life balance.

  • Lead and support business development initiatives to grow the climate, energy, and water team and the GPS practice, including proposal development.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in finance, economics, business administration, public policy, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of experience working in project finance, climate finance, multilateral climate funds, or areas related to finance mobilization for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

  • Deep knowledge of climate finance institutions and funds (such as the GCF, GEF) and the processes and protocols to access climate finance (accreditation)

  • Experience working with public and private sector stakeholders in emerging markets on climate finance topics.

  • Experience working with bilateral and multilateral institutions, international finance institutions, or on international development priorities.

  • Advanced skills in using industry standard research tools, models, and software.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information to a variety of audiences.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer. sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree from an accredited university in finance, economics, business administration, public policy, or a related field.

  • Experience with project finance, financial modeling, risk assessment, and/or project development including bringing transactions to financial close.

  • Knowledge of international climate policy and process, including UNFCCC negotiations, agreements, and related reporting frameworks and standards .

  • Experience with structuring blended finance solutions and mobilizing investment for climate change adaptation and resilience projects.

  • Experience accessing carbon finance through voluntary carbon markets or emission trading schemes.

  • Experience mentoring and coaching junior staff.

  • Experience managing senior-level client relationships, presenting, and selling ideas to clients and other decision makers.

  • Experience with business development and proposal writing.
