We are seeking a highly skilled Software Database Engineer to help own the efforts around expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection using cloud services. In this role, you will play a vital part in shaping our data strategy through contributing innovative ideas and evaluating the product owner's backlog to design and develop business solutions using Agile methodology.

Your role will include leading project requirement discussions, supervising post-release production support, and implementing new strategies for quality and productivity enhancements. You will develop architecture and frameworks, as well as design efficient database engine processes for sorting and accessing information. Using your programming knowledge, you will build data pipelines and integrate new information into existing databases for the organization.

Competitive candidates will be highly proficient in database technologies such as CosmosDB, NoSQL, SQL, data modeling, data warehousing, integrations, and ELT in addition to practical experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud services like Azure Functions.

This is a remote position for candidates based in Bulgaria & Poland

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test and maintain data pipelines and underlying data structures that support various applications

  • Collaborate with software developers, product owners and architects to understand database requirements and provide guidance on data modeling and database design.

  • Monitor database performance and solve issues using various tools and techniques, ensuring high availability and efficient data retrieval.

  • Ensure data security and compliance by implementing appropriate access controls, encryption, and data masking techniques.

  • Identify and resolve database-related performance bottlenecks, scalability challenges, and other issues that may impact system performance.

  • Assist in production deployment, debug issues with database scripts and data pipelines.

  • Document database designs, configurations, and repair procedures to maintain system documentation.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in applied computer science, Computer Science, or related field of study or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification

  • Previous data engineering experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 5+ years’ experience)

  • In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of appropriate education, training, and/or directly related experience will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with programming languages like Python, Java, and SQL. and big data technologies like Snowflake, Databricks and Spark.

  • Knowledge of Life Sciences systems and business is a plus

  • Proficiency in data modeling, schema design, and performance tuning.

  • Hands-on experience with database administration, backup and recovery, and database security.

  • Solid understanding of database internals, query optimization, and indexing strategies.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex database-related issues.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and version control systems (e.g., Git) is desirable.

  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and oral) to work in collaboration with software developers, product owners and business partners
