We are hiring for an Application Developer II to join our Enterprise Content Solutions Team at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. About the Role: The Application Developer II role involves working closely with various stakeholders such as business customers, vendors, and internal teams to provide expert support for image capture, recognition, and document management. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing, designing, and configuring Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS) packages to meet the needs of the organization. You will be responsible for providing support throughout the entire system lifecycle for multiple applications. This includes ensuring the application software is delivered on time and within budget, and performing maintenance to ensure that the systems are running smoothly and effectively. Departmental Preferences: * Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand complex system and data structures * Experience in data analysis tools and techniques (SQL, ETL, Excel) * Knowledge of software methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, RUP) * Familiarity with system upgrades and troubleshooting * Understanding of security best practices development and deployment of the code * Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with other teams * Strong problem-solving skills and structured approach when handling error resolution * Willingness to respond to critical incidents or emergencies outside of regular business hours and (weekends and weekdays) * Willingness to be part of on-call rotation schedule, providing support during evening, weekends, and holidays * Experience with Incident Management process and understanding of logging/tracking/resolving issues Work closely with clients, business analysts and team members on small to large, complex projects to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions that align with business and IT strategies and are in compliance with the organization's architectural standards. Provide support in the full systems life cycle for multiple applications to ensure application software is delivered on time and within budget. Code applications using a disciplined development process. Integrate solutions with other applications and platforms outside the framework. Create data extracts and reports from system based on requirements. Develop, execute, and document unit test plans. Support and/or execute all testing efforts across the life cycle. Assist in the deployment of new modules, upgrades and fixes to the production environment. Make modules production-ready by moving them to libraries, completing forms and version control documents, following procedures, etc. Validate deployment. Assist in production support. Troubleshoot existing information systems to identify errors or deficiencies and develops solutions. Provide ongoing maintenance of applications. Evaluate existing applications and platforms and provides recommendations for improving application performance by conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions, and assisting in the scope of modifications. Document functions and changes to new or modified modules and test activities/results. Assist in the development of user guides and training documentation for systems. Participate in project planning processes, as needed. Identify better sources of data feeds and interfaces with architects to ensure their feasibility with corporate data warehouse, when needed. Identify technical requirements, as needed. Create technical design specifications and assist in sizing technical requirements, as needed. Adhere to standards and procedures; check for compliance. Review modules for quality assurance. Evaluate new application packages and tools and perform research on best practices and provide recommendations for solutions, as needed.
