GARDENER/GARDEN EDUCATOR

We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Part-Time Gardener/Garden Educator to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Gardener for part of our Allie’s Place Culinary Center for Education & Employment located in the Soundview area of Bronx. As a Gardener, you will play a pivotal role in helping to supply (when needed) our culinary programming with fresh produce and to be a rich educational resource for the families with children who reside at Allie’s Place Family Residence. This exciting and creative position blends operation and maintenance of our garden with education for both children and adults. ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS, INC.

Homes for the Homeless, Inc. (HFH) is a non-profit social services organization operating family shelters throughout NYC that serve as a hub of opportunity for families both residing in shelter as well as those in the neighboring community. On-site programs range from childcare, early childhood education centers, afterschool clubs and programs, and youth recreation activities, such as sports teams, to housing assistance, case management, parenting workshops, career and job vocational training, support groups and substance abuse assistance, and family engagement and recreation events for the whole family.

OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overall maintenance of garden: soil maintenance, pest control, netting, and watering, etc.

  • Seeding, planting, and harvesting

  • Collection of produce, and proper storage in our classroom kitchen

    EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead hands-on gardening workshops for children and adults.

  • Ability to impart knowledge regarding soil composition and maintenance, seasonality, harvesting, etc.

    Salary:

    $17.85 Per Hour/20 Hours Per Week

    $18,564 Annually
