Boston University Manager, Sourcing/Facilities, College of Arts & Sciences, Biology in BOSTON, Massachusetts

The Boston University Department of Biology seeks a Sourcing & Facilities Manager to oversee a major research and teaching program at its Charles River Campus. This position reports to the Biology Department Manager and works closely with the Purchasing Office, Property Management, Grant and Contract Accounting, and Biology and other BU department faculty and staff.

The Purchasing and Facilities Manager will:

  • negotiate goods and services contracts;

  • gain approvals for orders;

  • place, reconcile, closeout and follow-up as necessary on all stockroom orders.

    They will serve as a resource for faculty on ordering materials, services and equipment, and will act as lead in coordinating the upgrade and modernization of the Department of Biology's stockroom systems and programs (e.g. lab coat cleaning, Promega and New England Biolabs freezer programs, etc.). The incumbent will manage and enforce the University and Departments radiation program and the Department of Biology's controlled substances program, in conjunction with the Environmental Health and Safety Office. They will also manage facilities and equipment located at 5 Cummington Street and 590 Commonwealth Avenue. This is a full-time, 12-month position with facilities, administrative and financial responsibilities. The ability to self-prioritize across multiple deadlines is critical. The Biology department is a large, collaborative and dynamic environment Key responsibilities include: Daily oversight of the Biology Department stockroom Purchasing authorization and closeout Fiscal duties related to the stockroom Facilities management of buildings and equipment at 5 Cummington & 590 Comm Ave. Strategic planning Environmental Health and Safety.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree and 5-8 years work experience required. Master's degree preferred.

  • Can communicate effectively and professionally with people from a variety of backgrounds.

  • Has the ability to work independently but is a strong team member.

  • Demonstrates excellent communication and organizational skills, including a strong attention to detail, and an ability to follow-up until a task is complete.
