Job Description:

As a member of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team, the Associate will participate in all aspects of Santander Bank’s Charitable Giving Program. The Associate will have opportunities to collaborate with other teams and business lines to amplify CSR-related programs and initiatives or other related work to employees, within the communities we serve, and to clients and other stakeholders.

Research and evaluate grant inquiries, develop relationships with existing and potential grantees, provide guidance on the full grant application once an applicant is invited and function as grantees’ primary point of contact.

Work closely with other Philanthropy team staff to ensure the strategic alignment of work within the team, track grant spending, monitor grantee performance and prepare impact reporting for grants within the Associate’s assigned portfolio of investments.

Remain current on the existing and emerging local community development needs within the Bank’s footprint, complex or innovative community programs addressing those needs and major federal, state and local legislation impacting low- and moderate-income households and communities.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Strategically allocate charitable donations in alignment with budget and business objectives.

  • Oversee corporate responsibility initiatives to help address social, economic, and environmental challenges and promote the Bank’s positive image.

  • Lead efforts to promote capital access and provide effective financial education programs to underserved communities.

  • Oversight of the entire process for assigned investments including the review of grant and sponsorship applications, preparation of initial and final funding recommendations, communicating approvals and declines, documentation and payment, grant report monitoring, and administrative and other related tasks.

  • Adhere to internal control standards and procedures, compliance and operational risk controls, applicable regulations and CSR, AML, OFAC and Reputational Risk policies, standards and operating procedures.

  • Maintenance of the grants database system including application development, data retrieval, report customization, and data entry quality control.

  • Develop and maintain collaborative and positive relationships with other bank and foundation funders, community development associations and philanthropic associations.

  • Assume roles on nonprofit boards and/or committees and actively volunteer in the community.

  • Track philanthropic activity and summarize grantee reporting and site visit observations.

  • Frequent travel for internal meetings, grantee site visits, public meetings, conferences and Santander Bank sponsored events primarily within the New York Tri-State region.

  • Represent the Philanthropy team during check presentations and community events recognizing Santander Bank’s philanthropic investments in the community.

  • Other duties as needed or assigned.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

3+ years' work experience in a foundation or corporate giving program and/or CSR related role for a Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) rated bank or financial services company.

Previous work experience in the non-profit sector.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced experience with grant management systems such as Benevity, CyberGrants/Bonterra, Blackbaud/YourCause or Salesforce.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and operates with the highest level of ethics and integrity, using discretion and maintaining confidentiality.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to build and foster internal relationships.

  • Strong collaboration and relationship management skills.

  • Ability to interact with senior level management; experience interfacing with multiple levels of the organizational structure.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Sharepoint) skills.

Working Conditions: Frequent Minimal physical effort such as sitting, standing and walking. Occasional moving and lifting equipment and furniture is required to support onsite and offsite meeting setup and teardown. Physically capable of lifting up to fifty pounds, able to bend, kneel, climb ladders.

For NYC Job Applicants: The base annual salary range for this position is $89,000-$105,000. The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications and location.
